# Assessment Proctoring: Setup and Configuration Guide

> Enable and configure Merge's optional proctoring features, including camera, audio, and screen-share capture during the assessment window.

Merge offers optional proctoring for organizations that need additional assurance about assessment integrity. When enabled, Merge records camera snapshots, microphone audio clips, and screen-share captures during the assessment window. All proctoring features are off by default and must be explicitly enabled by an admin in your organization.

## What proctoring captures

When proctoring is active, Merge collects the following signals — each configurable independently so you can enable only what your organization requires:

* **Camera snapshots** taken at intervals throughout the session to confirm candidate presence
* **Microphone audio clips** captured periodically during the assessment window
* **Screen-share snapshots** of the candidate's full display at intervals during the session
* **Browser activity signals**, including tab visibility changes and window focus events, logged on a timeline alongside the candidate's review activity

All recording is scoped strictly to the assessment window. Capture begins when the candidate starts the assessment and ends when the session closes. No data is collected before or after that window.

## Enabling proctoring

    Go to **Settings > Proctoring** in your Merge dashboard.

    Toggle **Enable proctoring** on. This activates the proctoring configuration for your organization.

  <Step title="Select the signals to capture">
    Choose which signals you want to collect: **camera**, **audio**, **screen-share**, and/or **browser signals**. Enable only the signals your organization needs — candidates will be notified about exactly which ones are active.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your settings">
    Click **Save**. Proctoring will apply to all new assessment invites created from this point forward. Invites that were already sent are not affected.

You can also enable or disable proctoring on a per-assessment basis from the individual assessment's settings page. Assessment-level settings override the organization default for that specific assessment.

## Accessing proctoring evidence

After a candidate completes a proctored assessment, their evidence is available alongside the scorecard.

* Navigate to the candidate's scorecard and open the **Proctoring** tab
* Camera snapshots, audio clips, and screen-share captures are displayed in chronological order, timestamped relative to the start of the session
* Browser activity events — tab switches, window focus loss — appear on a timeline that runs parallel to the candidate's review activity, so you can correlate behavior with specific moments in the assessment
* Only authorized team members within your organization can view proctoring evidence — the same access controls that govern scorecards apply here

## Data handling

  Merge does not use proctoring recordings for advertising, model training, or any purpose outside delivering the assessment experience to your organization. Recordings are cleared after the applicable retention period or when you delete the underlying invite or assessment data. You can request early deletion at any time from the assessment's settings.
